Sudoku!
Yay! I just solved my 1st Sudoku puzzle.
What's that, you say?
Sudoku is a cool logic puzzle that's been driving Britain into a frenzy.
The rules are simple: You're given a 9x9 grid made up of 3x3 subgrids. Some of the cells in this grid are already filled up with digits (only from 1 to 9). The objective of the game is to fill in the empty cells with digits (again, only from 1 to 9) in such a way that each row, column and 3x3 square contains all 9 digits. Every puzzle has a unique solution.
The game mechanics can be mastered fairly easily but puzzles can range from fairly simple to tear-inducingly complex.
Therein lies it's appeal. There's something for everyone, from absolute beginners like me to seasoned MENSA puzzle-solvers.
Puzzles are published daily in many British newspapers but for those of us who live elswhere, no fear, there's an online playable version. Here it is: Web Sudoku. It's a great way to practice the game as it's got a built-in help system- it identifies any mistakes you've made- like filling in the same number twice on the same row/column/square. It's also got 3 difficulty levels: Easy, Medium and Hard. I found this online playable version of Sudoku from: jay is: Web Sudoku. Jay's blog is the best place to look if you want to find cool webgames. He never fails to link to something new and interesting every week.
Anyway, try out Web Sudoku but don't blame me if you get totally addicted to it. Have fun! ;-)
